1. Name of the camp:

“Bukówka” – barracks of the 4th Legions’ Infantry Regiment

2. Location of the camp:

In the woods, 4 kilometers from Kielce

3. Size of the camp:

A dozen or so hectares. The site is located outside the administration of the Municipal Board in Kielce.

4. Date of establishment of the camp:

8 September 1939

5. Date of closure of the camp:

Approx. on 20 October 1939, two weeks before the liquidation of the camp, the camp command had denied access to the camp to the representatives of the Polish Red Cross.

6. Were the prisoners only Poles, only Jews from Poland, or Poles and Jews from Poland?

Prisoners of war, usually privates, and a small proportion of officers

7. Were there any foreigners in the camp (nationality, number)?

No

1,000–5,000 people

About 20,000 people

10. What happened with the prisoners upon liquidation of the camp?

They were deported to POW camps in Germany.

During the first period of the camp’s existence the prisoners did not receive any food from the camp command, and later they received some watery soup once a day. The prisoners were fed by the local Kielce community through the Polish Red Cross.

There was an infirmary run by the Polish Red Cross, but it was insufficient.

15. Where there any epidemics in the camp? (If yes, what kind)

Dysentery was widespread, there were cases of typhus and typhoid fever.

16. Are data on the death rate in the camp available?

There were a few deaths due to exhaustion and diseases.

17. Were executions held at or outside the camp?

No

20. Was the burial site of the murdered victims determined?

At the local military cemetery.

Used as barracks of the Polish Army.

On 6 October 1945, the contents of the above questionnaire were officially certified by Ludwika Bazylewska, acting on the authorization of the president of the city of Kielce, with the Municipal Court in Kielce.
