The death of a German
In 1944, when the Germans were leaving and the Soviets came, many Germans were killed, and one German was shot by the Soviets behind our barn, in the field. His friends brought him to the cross. People looked at his papers. On his chest, he wore a medal and a cross on a gold chain. One German wrote a letter to his family.
One man dug a grave and the Germans ordered us to bring flowers. We carried flowers from the school garden and threw them into the grave. The Germans made a cross and hung his helmet on it.
