My most important wartime experience

It was [in] 1944. One day, the Germans came and set up a cannon on the road. The Germans stationed in Wisznice did not recognize their own troops and thought it was the Russian army, so they started firing their guns at them. We decided to run into the woods in the meantime. During the battle, they wounded one soldier. After that, one German soldier got on his horse, took the flag in hand and rode to Wisznice. At that point, [the others] stopped shooting, having recognized a friendly force. They took the wounded man and drove him to the hospital. The day after the Germans left, Russian soldiers came. That is what happened during the war.
