My most important wartime experience

When I got up in the morning, I saw the Germans fleeing in their cars, tanks and on foot. Their cars and tanks had cannons in tow. They set up three cannons in the close vicinity of our home, and in the evening a battle commenced. When the Soviets fired their cannons, one of the projectiles [hit the ground] right next to the cannon and wounded the German gravely.

The next day, I woke up in the morning and went outside. I did not see the Germans, but I saw a Soviet soldier. I went where the cannons were, and I only saw the projectiles left by the Germans. When I noticed the projectiles, I ran home. I said that there were projectiles right next to our home. Dad went out and buried them.
