My wartime experiences

It all happened in 1943, during the German occupation. On the early morning of 5 August, a few cars with Nazis arrived in Stępków. They surrounded the village. Several Germans went from house to house and ordered people to gather in the square near the village administrator’s house. People went there trembling with fear.

When everybody was gathered in the square, one of the Germans told us not to hide Jews or Russian slaves. The Germans also asked whether there were any partisans in our village. Then the Germans left. People went home. Thank God nothing bad happened.
