My wartime experiences

It was Easter Sunday. In the morning people went to the Resurrection Mass. We were praying fervently when suddenly some noises started coming from the outside. People left the church to see what was happening. Smoke was belching from beyond the forest and people were shouting: “Fire, fire!”. We could also hear machine guns. People started crying that the children were at home alone; everybody ran to their rescue, but the Germans didn’t let anyone through the bridge. People were overwhelmed with despair. 22 people perished that day in Klucze [?], all of whom were buried together on Tuesday.
