My most memorable moment from the German occupation

It was in July 1944. I was still asleep when the village was surrounded by the Germans. They entered each house in search of men and rushed them all to the road. They did not let anyone go to work. All the women and children were crying, as they did not know where the men would be taken. I asked a German to let my dad go but he did not want to hear any of that.

They lined them up on the road. The German officers and cars had already arrived. They began checking the documents. Some traitor dressed up as a German was sitting in a car and pointing out who was to be taken, and those people were marched to the other side of the road. If the sons were not home, the fathers were taken in their stead and deported to the Reich, from where they have not returned to this day. As they were leaving, the Germans warned us that if any German was killed or wounded by guerilla fighters, they would slaughter the whole village.
