My most memorable moment from the German occupation

It was in the autumn of 1944. The Germans surrounded our entire town and were arresting all men. My daddy was employed, so he wasn’t afraid and went to work. He didn’t make it to the street, because they caught him. They didn’t even look at his identity papers, but led him with a bunch of other people to the barracks in Sobierajka. There they divided them into groups. I hastened to bring daddy some food, but I had to take it back because the railway director came and took all the older men. They were taken to the station to work, while the younger men, daddy included, were deported to Germany. My despair knew no bounds…
